“The Dance of Listening” directly addresses and challenges the modern loss of face-to-face communication, celebrating the life-affirming tradition of intimate human exchange while scrutinizing its current state of decline. Whereas the piece is built from a predetermined structure, the addition of impromptu instruction introduces an element of surprise and risk, adding the potential for “beautiful accidents” with unforeseeable results.
