“Courage has developed a choreographic language that is ballet-based but thoroughly contemporary in the way it tears — sometimes humorously, sometimes sarcastically — at ballet’s edges.”

Join courage group for their 2011 home season, “The Dance of Listening,” at ODC’s newly remodeled theater.  The evening will feature three new works by choreographer Todd Courage.  The eponymous centerpiece, “The Dance of Listening,” shares the bill with two additional world premieres—carefully sculpted collages of classical and contemporary movement—showcasing Courage’s use of cultural cliché, humor, and high style.

A more experimental piece, “The Dance of Listening,” directly addresses and challenges the modern loss of social grace while celebrating the life-affirming tradition of intimate human exchange.

The multilayered sound score for “The Dance of Listening” is an original work by Bay Area composer Ryan Andersen, specifically commissioned for this piece. Through the use of light and shadow, lighting designer David Robertson will reflect the lost art of listening.

Join us at the newly remodeled ODC Theater in San Francisco’s Mission District, February 3 through February 6, 2011. All shows are at 8pm. All tickets are $25.
